Lesson one
Lorna explained that she was finding it difficult to create compression with her iron play. Her bad shots would be thin/low and occasionally to the left. The first picture shows Lorna having a strong right hand grip on the club (being too far underneath the club). This will cause the club face to close at impact (point left). As a result Lorna's trajectory can sometimes be low and slightly to the left. Furthermore by adopting that strong right hand grip, Lorna will find it difficult to create wrist hinge in the backswing as shown in the second picture.
I discussed with Lorna the importance of having a good grip in order for her to create better strikes and produce higher and straighter shots. Picture three shows Lorna's right hand being more on top of the grip. This allows her to have greater control of the clubface during the golf swing and in particular during impact. The final picture shows the improvement in wrist hinge during the backswing meaning Lorna was able to create more compression on the ball, which resulted in a higher ball flight and improved striking.
